Congrats Monica and Curt!

Remember waaaaaaaaaay back when I wore those super-cute boots on the engagement session down on the farm?

Well, Curt and Monica finally tied the knot on August 7th, 2010.

They had a very cute and personal wedding at the St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star and then everyone went back to her parents farm for the party.

And not only do those Batdorf's know how to party, but there wasn't one detail skipped, missed or forgotten. Absolutely incredible. They were very attentive to pay homage to Monica's Mary Kay career, and Curt's important job as a farmer. Right down to the tractors as backdrops and the steer ear tags as name cards.

I'm hoping to get caught up enough to post some of my favorite images from this wedding. There are so many! But until I do, here's a slideshow:

Shawn & Holly 7/3/2010

Shawn and Holly's wedding was one of the most unique and personal weddings I've ever done. She paid attention to every. single. detail.

This was the first wedding I actually covered at the Willow Tree Inn (the other two times I was there was actually attending one). I fell in love with it when I first attended a wedding there a few years back, but I fell in love with it all over again when I was shooting there. The little nooks and crannies were endless for pictures. And the light was gorgeous...even well into the reception.

I've had a lot of questions about this wedding, so I've listed as many links at the end of this post as I could.

It was really hard for me to pull out my favorite images from this day....there were just far too many. But my favorite group of pictures were -- hand's down -- the dancing pictures at the reception. The way these two looked at each other -- ah, so in love! Even Holly's dad was beaming with pride.

Dress: a Maggie Sottero from Emmy's Bridal, Minster
Hair: Chrissy, Traci and Angie from Glamour on Mane, Piqua

Ross and Michelle

I love weddings.

I have documented over 25 of them in my career, and they never get old. I know the routine, where to stand for the best possible kissing shot, and have memorized I Corinthians 13:1-13.

But it amazes me how different each wedding is. The details are all there but so different. And it's really cool for me to see how each couple personalizes their day in their own way. Some name tables after places the couple went on dates, some add their favorite sports teams into the cake, and some even add in their high school rivalries.

Ross and Michelle's big day was clear back in June. (Yes, I know it's August.) And I think up until that point, it was the hottest day of the year. And even though it was sweltering outside, their bridal party was incredibly patient....and absolutely hilarious!

Oh Happy Day

The day started out being like every other day.

But not.

It was our day.

Since the boys were at their mom's house, and the girls were at their dad's, we woke up to a fairly quiet house that morning. Chris got up that morning with a little work to do and left the house relatively early. I woke up earlier than normal with butterflies already in my stomach. I managed to keep busy with my normal morning routine and a quick trip to the store for belts for the boys.

By late morning everyone was back at home. It was the most beautiful day of the year (so far) and the kids took advantage of it outside. Other than the hand towels prominently displayed in the master bathroom, you never would have suspected a wedding was going to take place that day. The song of a slamming front door and kids giggling danced through the house on the breeze from the wide open windows.

But their was a wedding that day. Our wedding.

There is something fun about the element of surprise. No one had a clue what we were up to that day. Not our parents, not our friends, and certainly not our kids. It's a plan we had had in place for nearly a month, and with the exception of our photographer disguised as one of our best friends, no one was none the wiser.

We didn't start out planning our wedding like this. Originally we wanted a traditional wedding, with a pastor reading our vows, our parents in attendance, and fancy dresses. But the more we started planning, the less meaningful it was quickly becoming. We thought our kids wanted the "normal wedding" -- as they so called it -- only to find out the only thing they really wanted was the party.

So, after a wonderful conversation with my Aunt Leah, the plans changed. We had decided to go to the courthouse -- just the six of us -- and exchange our vows in front of the Justice of the Peace.

Everyone had brand new outfits for the occasion, right down to Bryce's skull-and-crossbone tie. (Those of you that know him, know how fitting it is.) The girls were in cute polka-dotted dresses and each wore a flower in their hair. The boys -- all three of them -- had crisply ironed shirts and coordinating ties. I wore a blue satin blouse and black pencil skirt (to which Bryce affectionately commented on my resemblance to Erkel). We were a good looking bunch. And we looked like we belonged together.

About 12:30 on Wednesday, March 31st, we all piled in the truck and headed to the courthouse in New Lebanon. The ride was only 30 minutes but felt like 3 hours. I was anxious and excited and the drive was nearly stress-free. No worries about DJs, bridesmaids missing jewelry, groomsmen drinking too much in the parking lot, or what time the cakelady was arriving. It was just us, our happy kids, our photographer, and our marriage certificate.

We were greeted by the judge's bailiff, Amy, who showed us into the courtroom. None of the kids had ever seen a courtroom -- however I'm pretty sure it won't be the last visit for at least 2 of them -- and were excited to be in such a cool place. Amy explained how the ceremony would unfold and moments later the judge came into the room.

He was an older gentleman with glasses and white hair. He wore a dark green robe and a tender look on his face. And although he kept our ceremony serious, you could tell he was a family man with a soft heart.

As the ceremony began, I remember looking at Chris thanking God that he put him in my life, and the girls' lives. I remember thinking "gosh, I'm so lucky to have all of this for the rest of my life". For richer or poorer, I have 4 incredible kids, I get kitchen-table-conversations with my 17 year old son about his girlfriend, I get the joyous phone call of our oldest daughter when she's giving us the news of our first grandchild. In sickness and in health, there will be deaths to mourn through, births to celebrate, heartaches to heal and disappointment to defeat. Until death do us part, we will stand by one another happily traveling down God's path He laid for us.

All the days of our life.

Although it only lasted 5 minutes (tops), it will forever be etched in my mind. It was absolutely perfect. We stripped it down to what was important to the most important people. It was sentimental, it was intimate, it was romantic.

It was the day that six became one.

Holy cow!!!

Literally.

Holy cow.

A few weeks ago, I found myself on one of the most fun engagement shoots to date. Monica and Curt are one of my August 2010 Wedding couples. Lucky me!

Growing up in the same town, I knew of Monica's family and knew that they were pretty big into farming. Like acres and acres big into farming. Not to mention Curt, her rather adorable Groom to be, is a full time farmer. Yeah, full time....all day. So, it came as no surprise when she told me of their plans to have their engagement shoot done on their farm. And to me, it only seemed fitting that we did their session where they spend the most of their time.

There was always a little part of me growing up that made me wish I lived on a farm with stray cats, livestock, funny smells and lots of bugs. It was completely short lived, but whatever.

Here are a couple of my favorites from the day....

I know they look like cows, but they were more like watch dogs. Reeeeeeeallllllly BIG, smelly, watch dogs.

Delicious late afternoon light makes me swoon! And it was even overcast part of the day.

And, of course, here's a few more.....wanna guess what song we used???

On a side note, I have a few more sessions I'm diligently finishing up!
- Baby Jack
- The Meyer Family of 3, plus two dogs one dog and one princess
- The Sweet Painter Family
- Centerville HS Photography Day

Shawn + Holly's e-session

Um.....how cute are these two!??

I just love Love. I love photographing it, I love watching it, I love hearing couples talk about it. I love being in it.

Holly is obviously one of my 2010 brides and I couldn't be more excited for their big day.

For Shawn and Holly's engagement session, we tooled around their huge farm on this Ranger. We covered every square inch of that place just to be sure we didn't pass up a good photo location. I couldn't resist a picture of them on that cute thing. Not to mention, the southside of their property housed a HUGE Queen Ann's Lace field....which I fell in love with.

I have the cutest clients ever.
