The Loudenback's

Sometimes, it's a little disheartening for me to do repeat sessions for my clients. No, really. It is. I hadn't seen sweet, little Ava since I did her newborn pictures when she was 5 days old. Imagine the shock I felt when I showed up to their family session last month and she was 8 months old! I know, right? Where in the heck did all that time go?!?? And look how stinkin' cute she is!

Maybe 'disheartening' is the wrong word. It's just that it floors me when you see these little boogers growing up sooooo fast. It's one thing to watch your own kids whiz by you, but to watch someone else's kids do it, is just amazing.

I will say that it's pretty cool for me to know that when Ava is searching for pictures for her high school graduation slide show, these will be top contenders.

Yeah, that's pretty cool.

Landon, 6 months! Already!!!

I just can't even believe this little guy is 6 months old already. It's one thing to watch your own kids grow up and reach those important milestones...but when you watch your clients doing it -- it just seems like life is going waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too fast.

Landon's been my client since he was in his mama's belly. And again when he was born. And when he was 3 months.

And now he's a whopping 6 months old.

And, to boot, his mom had enough nerve to schedule his 9 month session already.

Torrie, you are smooookin' hot!! Those other two guys are pretty cute, too. =)

How can you not giggle at this picture!? Just look at that face!!!

Landon's dad does this thing with him....he'll pick Landon up and eat him like an ear of corn. And Landon just goes crazy laughing!!!
So cute.

See you guys in a few weeks!!!

Heather, the Contest Winner

Remember back in April when I had my contest? Well, Heather won. A few weeks later, I met up with her --and her darling family-- so she could claim her prize!

Heather is married to her high school sweetheart and has two beautiful twin girls. Alani and Tegan are the first set of twins I've EVER photographed! And I couldn't believe how different they were despite looking exactly alike. (On a radom side note, Heather did give me the inside scoop on how to tell them apart. But for the life of me I couldn't remember which one was which so I had to study her Facebook pictures to make sure I had it right!)

I had an absolute blast with this family and loved the character in the girls. So cute!

Here are a couple of random facts about Heather:
  • We used to work at the local newspaper together and had front-lobby conversations about anything...and EVERYTHING!
  • We had a system in place of calling each other if we got stuck with an annoying customer.......or co-worker (even though our desks were 4 feet apart!!).
  • She loves anything Lisa Frank.
  • Her weakness is pens, pencils, and little note pads.
  • One year, during our career at the newspaper, she got me a cute little box with an ornament in it for Christmas. I still have that box on my desk in my office. And the ornament still gets hung on my tree.

Hi Tegan!!

Alani and her dimple.

There is just something about a twins' bond that facinates me. Lovelovelovelovelove this!!!

Small Town

I was one of those kids that grew up in a small town. So small that it wasn't on a map until I was in high school. So small that it only had 3 stoplights. So small that you could dial your friends house using only 5 digits. So small that if the old lady at the grocery store didn't know you, chances were they knew your parents or played Bridge with your Grandma.

Yeah, THAT small.

If you would have asked me when I was younger, I would have told you that I hated that town and everything it stood for. I hated the cliques that formed in junior high. I hated that the neighbor kids knew all the good hiding places when we'd play "Rabbit" after dark. It infuriated me that my mom would know of my mischief before I even walked in the door from creating it. I resented the rumor mill that ran constantly somewhere in the heart of the town like an fire hydrant being flushed in the summertime.

But when you go through a tragedy, your jaded perspective seems to shift the other direction. The two guys you'd least expect to see, knock on your door just to sit with you. People show up with meat trays and casseroles. Letters are sent and cards pour from your mailbox. The things that you used to loathe about that tiny, little, farming town become minuscule and better, brighter things take focus.

Things like Vic -- the bubbly, stout, old man at the grocery store that bagged groceries for your mom. Or the dime store with a smorgasbord of penny candy. Or the smell of hot dogs on a Friday night coming from the football field. Or the sight of the really big maple trees that get deep, burgandy, red in the fall.

The "things" start to take less meaning and the people become more important. You slowly begin to realize that those people have molded you to who you are. They shared part of your history. They helped create memories....the same memories that you can remember when you're old with children of your own.

Amy does that for me. And it wasn't just her. It was her 4 other siblings and her mom and dad. I used to baby sit for the Montgomery family. It was the first real "job" I had the summer after I turned 13. And I was completely clueless, I might add.

Amy's mom worked in the school cafeteria so their freezer was always stocked with these awesome personal-sized pepperoni and taco pizzas -- which made feeding 5 kids a breeze. I never understood how she did it -- raising 5 kids, working full-time, being a wife. I remember looking up to her thinking she wore that really cool Wonder Woman tiara when noone was around. Everyone knew who Paula was and you never saw her without a smile. Ever.

Paula was married to John who, in my mind, was the most handsome lumberjack you ever saw. Only we didn't live even remotely close to thick, wooded, areas and he wasn't a lumberjack. But, he did have a tree service business that (if I remember right) was passed down to him from his dad. They lived on one of the main streets in our town and one year he lined it with trees.

Those Montgomery kids were a blast to watch. The most disgusting diaper I ever changed was their youngest, AJ's. (And I can say that it's the most disgusting diaper ever even after changing my own kids' diapers for all those years.) I have no idea what that child ate that day, but whatever it was nearly made me puke. Sara Beth and Katie were incredibly sweet girls that loved to do my hair. I lost Peter one time playing hide and seek. Turned out he was just mad that Amy found him first and was hiding so he could throw a fit. And Amy....she was just so sweet and loving. She was the oldest and never complained about anything. Except when I burnt the pizza once. Ok, twice.

It's funny to look back on the people who have come in and out of your life and see how they effected you. For some it was something they said -- some encouraging words of advice that pulled you thru a trying time -- and for others it's something they did.

Amy's husband, Brent, and I did a creative swap. He has this incredible design business and when I needed a logo for part of my packaging, he delievered. So, to make even on the deal, I did their family photos.

And now Amy, with her five kids and absolutely darling family, has turned into a Wonder Woman of her own.

Miss Kash turns 1

I know, super cool name, huh!?

My brother sent Kate my way when she was looking for a photographer to take her daughter's one-year pictures. Because I pay my brother large amounts of cash to pass my name along, he (of course) did his job nicely.

I was just kidding about that large-amounts-of-cash stuff...

Anyhoo, we all met up last Friday for our session. Wasn't the ideal weather conditions either, I might add. The wind was blowing pretty hard and the sun was out in full force. Like I said, not too ideal when you're a photographer. But we handled it and things turned out pretty well.

Ok, maybe better than "pretty well"....

I want this in a canvas reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally big, hanging in my office. This is one of those "Instant Happy" ones that make me giggle when I see it. No more Monday Morning Blahs with this hanging around!!

And since no 1st Birthday is complete without a birthday cake they get to smash in their faces, we had to have one. This is always fun to watch unfold. You know that they don't get frosting...or heck, even sugar, much when they're this tiny...so to see their eyes light up when they get that first bite....always a fun moment to share. I think her eyes were the size of that cupcake when she had her first taste!

Too cute! Happy Birthday Kash!!

Coming up.....

Last week was -- and still is -- an absolute blur to me. Not only did I get married on Wednesday, but we also had lots of Easter plans with our families. Factor in the sessions I did and BAM!....you've found yourself smack dab in the middle of Cah-raaazeee! Welcome to my world.

Needless to say I have some catchin' up to do. So stay tuned for:

Joel and his twin brothers (and the rest of the family)
A scrumptous little Kash
Career Day at Valley View Jr. High School
Easter at Aunt Wanda's
Duncan turns 7
and Foulk Landscaping

And since my posts are so much more fun with pictures, here's one of that cute 'lil Kash I told you about. If you can look at this picture and not smile or laugh, then you're missing a whole lot!
The interactions between mothers and their babies make me swoon. And just look at how proud that dad is!! That is raw emotion. And it's absolutely beautiful. (Kate, we need to make this one a canvas. K?)

More to come later in the week...
