#862

I love lists. I think I have a list for everything.

I keep lists of:

chores to do
funny things my 7-year-old says
groceries to get
Things To Do Before I Die
Places I Want to Go
People I love and adore
Things I want to get
Things I want to get rid of
Movies I want to see
Recipes to try
Bands I love (which changes almost daily)
The kids' favorite foods
And the foods they dislike (which also change almost daily)
My favorite colors
Blogs I read
Favorite images
Things I love about our kids
My favorite t-shirts
And flip-flops

Apparently, I even keep lists of my lists. For some, odd reason lists make me feel like I'm organized, like I won't miss anything.

I also keep a list of reasons why I love Chris. The list is long...and gets longer every waking day. He does thoughtful things for me, he reads to Harley, he fixes me coffee in the mornings....

Good things. Thoughtful things.

This morning I added something to that list.

This guy greeted us at the kitchen table this morning when we came down for breakfast. My body warmed with happiness and a huge smile covered my face. I laughed and realized how lucky I am to have such a wonderful man in our lives. And he's pretty funny.

Happiness. I have a list for that, too.

Charity Saturday

If I could go back to then I would. Popsicle stained lips, toothless grins and dirty bare feet. My summers as a kid were what I lived for. No cares, no worries. Just me, my swimsuit, and the smell of chlorine....

When I think back to then, my summer memories are tucked inside an L-shaped swimming pool like a love letter in an envelope. The place I spent day in and day out...from the time it opened at one in the afternoon 'til it closed at 8 (or 6 if it were Sunday). The place where you didn't need a towel....you just laid on the concrete and let the sun dry you off. The place where you didn't get out of the water -- even if you were all prune-y -- until the 3 o'clock adult swim.....when you'd stand in a line 35 people-deep for a Strawberry Scooter Crunch. Those were the days. I made friendships with people just like me, from the next town over. Lasting friendships. Genuine friendships. So much so that were were one huge family. Year by year, those friendships picked up, right where they left off on Labor Day the year before.

Then, as time passed and you grew up, you spent your summers working there. Instead of playing handball in the 3-foot, you were screening out bugs or scrubbing the walls. Benching kids for running on the pavement or catching the big kids going down the slide backwards. The little kids idolized you -- like you once did to those before you -- as a lifeguard. You were their heroes. You had the coolest job on the face of the planet....with a whistle to twirl around your fingers up in that chair. Those friendships you had grown when you were little were now your co-workers. And yet, still part of your family. They were your brothers that picked on you, and sisters you leaned on. And a mom who ran the show.....

In a childhood of cold, cloudy days, those days with that family were your brightest days. They made you forget about your sick mom, your dysfunctional family troubles, divorcing parents, and having to grow-up overnight. They made you feel normal. That family made you feel like you were part of something special.

And at the center of that family was The Anderson's. 4 special people that have touched more lives than they could ever realize. You looked at them and that's what you wanted to be when you grew up. That's the love you wanted to have, that's the family bond you wanted to share. You wanted to emulate everything about them. Randy was a basketball coach to his son's team. Lisa was a cheerleading advisor to her daughter's squad. The lived for their kids. And not just the ones they gave birth to....

Even to this day, this family touches my heart. And I don't think I've ever told them so.

In October 2008, Randy and Lisa lost their daughter to skin cancer. Unjustly. Unfairly. Unimaginably.

But, they persevered. 5 months later they hosted the first Heather Anderson-Land Melanoma Awareness Day. A day all her own to live on and fight a beast that she wanted to defeat.

I was lucky enough to photograph the event. I took so many pictures -- several times thru tear filled eyes. At times it was so overwhelming to see the support for this family and the love for Heather.

"Finally! I'm Double Digits!"

It's been kinda like Birthday Central around our house the last few weeks/months. First, Taylor turned eleven. Then, Chris turned 100.....or 35. Same thing.

And now Brenden is 10.

10.

10 Things I love about our 10-year-old

1.) He has a heart the size of a dinner plate. Just like his Dad.
2.) He LOVES art. Drawing it. Painting it. Singing it. All of it.
3.) If he could eat, breathe, and sleep football, he would. Ditto for the Buckeyes.
4.) He's not afraid to belt out 80s tunes with me in the car.
5.) He's the Vice Man-of-the-House when Chris is gone. Including taking out the trash and squashing bugs.
6.) He'll excuse himself from the table to go fart. Even if we can hear it from the other room....AND laugh about it....
7.) When other kids are mean to his little brother and sister, he'll make 'em eat gravel. Repeatedly.
8.) As crazy as it gets in our house, he is the instigator of the Group Hug. Usually in the middle of me fixing dinner.
9.) No matter how hard it might be, he always tries to do the right thing. Even when he's not sure what the 'right thing' is, his heart is always in the right place.
10.) He'll call me at work in the morning to say thank you for making him cinnamon rolls.

Happy birthday, Little Man. We're so proud of you.

Trash or Treasure?

My mom (like a gazillion other people, I'm sure) always used to say that "one man's trash is another man's treasure". She was smart.

The best "trash" I ever get is when people call me and say "my [insert who ever you know here] was going to throw these out, but I thought you might like them".

Like them!? LOVE them!!!

From what I can tell, this little guy wasn't the automatic developing Polaroid. He was the type that you had to pull the paper tab to release the chemicals. The box of film is unopened or else I would give it a try...

This Polaroid film EXPIRED on May 1976....which was 5 months before I was BORN. Yes, I said born.

(I like her just because she's pink. I'm a girl. Pink is fab.)
I imagine that this camera is circa 1980s -- judging by the totally rad pink, and the fact that it says "Kids 'R Us". I think they went out of business in the 80s (maybe early 90s??). If I had any guts -- which I'm not saying I don't -- I'd develop the film that was left in it. That'd be the roll sitting next to her.

So, trash or treasure? I dunno, I don't care. I love 'em. (I am interested in knowing what that second camera was.) I think there is something nostalgic about old....stuff. Be it cameras, paintings, purses, or shoes....there's just something cool about the history that old stuff has. I wonder how many pictures these cameras took back in their day? Happy families? A birth or two? Birthdays?

What makes me laugh even more is the thought of my kids finding my cameras (OK, the memory cards) and finding 'nostalgia' in them. Granted, that is if they can find an old school card reader and laptop to view them with.

Miss L

Wow! What a cutie.

Little L was an absolute RIOT to be around! She has one of those animated personalities that just leave you in stitches! Plus, she had these big blue eyes that sparkled...

I love the feel of this one!

My ab-so-lute favorite!!

After our little shoot, we decided to head over to Cold Stone Creamery (seriously....how could we resist?!?) for a snack...

(Can you see the blue ice cream on her nose?)

This picture makes me want to blow it up mural-size and hang it in my kitchen.

Thanks, Miss L (and her mom!), for letting me take up your Sunday afternoon!! I had an incredible time!!

This little guy is the nephew of one of my co-workers....and what a cute lil' thing he was! He was so happy (well, at least until we undressed him) and was such a trooper (Amber, if I could have used 'deputy' and it made sense, I would have)....

Can't wait to go back at 3 months to do some more!!

Who doesn't love a sleeping baby!???

I love the little bit of his lunch he still had on his bottom lip here....so happy....

Blogger Neglect

I've realized today (ok, so I realized it WAY before now, it's only been recently that I've felt guilty about it) that I haven't really been posting here like I'd like to. Guess that's the price you pay for raising 4 kids. 4 very active, growing and crazy kids....

Not that there's a whole lot of people that follow this blog....at least not that I know of....but just incase I do have at least one reader...I figured I'd post a couple pictures -- just so you know I'm still here....

On the upside of my neglect, my photography IS getting busier so be looking for this place to be updated a lot more.

Bryce and I played around with the crayons and the paints today -- since it was nasty raining outside. He's a lefty and loves using the artsy side of his brain...
